FOMH Heritage Development Matching Grants Program has funded 34 organizations more than $150,000 since 2001, having supported the following types of projects:

Paid advertising in newspaper, magazines, and periodicals

Collateral marketing materials.

Video presentations and television and radio commercials.

Direct mail campaigns.

Multi-media presentations focused on marketing

Specialized kiosks, brochures, displays

Preservation initiatives and soft costs to be defined as and limited to the following; records, books, documents, photographs and other archival materials.

Archeological studies and research.

Exhibition design and display.

Educational programs.

Collections management and restoration

Organizational planning: strategic plans, fundraising plans, marketing plans, and organizational plans.

 

Friends of Mountain History provides grants on a 50/50 matching basis to any historical organization, museum or site, or cultural organization with a heritage related program located within the 24-county region. The purpose of this program is to

  • Encourage public education by assisting with the preservation and management of heritage resources in the mountain region of Western North Carolina.

  • Develop regional and community programs designed to strengthen and empower the leadership and boards of historical sites, museums, historical societies, preservation groups and cultural organizations.


  • Support existing historical organizations to build capacity and to attract new audiences and resources.



  • Focus on the history and preservation of the region.

  • Encourage community involvement and interest in the activities of cultural heritage organizations
