The Blue Ridge National Heritage
Area (BRNHA) was established by Congress in Fall, 2003 “to
conserve our distinctive natural, historic, scenic, and cultural
resources, and to provide opportunities for conservation, economic
development, education, and recreation through recognition of
and assistance to areas containing such resources.” It will
enable Western North Carolina to develop and package the region
through specific themes: arts and crafts, mountain music, Cherokee
history, Scots-Irish history, and natural and historical attractions.
This convergence of goals between the BRNHA and FOMH positions
Friends of Mountain History as a primary resource to strengthen
and enhance the heritage product of WNC. |
