Mountain Heritage Resources Program Archive |

Friends of Mountain History provides
two educational programs each year for cultural and heritage
organizations and museums in Western North Carolina. These programs
address the greatest needs expressed by these non-profits in
an assessment survey sent out annually. Topics include: fundraising,
marketing, non-profit management, collections care, interpretive
programs, exhibition design, and facilities development. These
programs are held in Asheville as well as other locations throughout
the region.

“It’s All About the Visitor”
Marketing Basics for Interpretive and Heritage
Sites.
Featuring John Veverka
John Veverka lectures internationally
on Heritage Tourism and Interpretation Planning,
and has served as an interpretive consultant to
three National Heritage Areas, and currently serves
as an interpretive consultant to the US National
Park Service Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network.
He will present a full day of Marketing Analysis
and Strategy, plus a session on Planning, design
and pre-testing marketing brochures. Bring your

Making What’s Old… New Again:
Building Audience Through Innovation and Interpretation
Friends of Mountain History
brings author and educator David Carr to Western
North Carolina on Monday, November 15 and Tuesday,
November 16 for three half-day presentation and
workshop sessions that will help professionals
and non-profit volunteers build audiences for
their programs, expand visitation to their exhibitions,
and create partnerships with schools and cultural
institutions.

Dr. Bruce Cole

Celebrating Heritage in Western North Carolina
Bruce Cole, Chairman of the National
Endowment for the Humanities in Washington, D.C.
will explore the importance of our civic memory
to our understanding of what it means to be a
citizen. He will discuss the Endowment's "We
the People" initiative which aims to enhance
the teaching, study and understanding of American
history and culture, including programs and new
opportunities that will be of special interest
to the heritage and cultural organizations of
Western North Carolina.
